Painting

Every Saree is a Masterpiece

Hand painting on sarees is an art where skilled artists paint designs directly on the fabric. Every stroke is done by hand, making each piece unique—like wearing a painting.

The Art Form

Hand Painting on Sarees

Behind the Scenes

How It Is Done

Preparing the Saree:

The saree (usually cotton, silk, organza, or chiffon) is washed and ironed so the paint sets well.

Sketching the Design

The artist lightly draws the design on the fabric using pencil or chalk.
Designs may include flowers, birds, scenery, peacocks, temple art, geometric shapes, or portraits.

Painting

Using brushes, sponges, fabric colors, and fine detailing tools, the artist paints the design layer by layer.
Some styles are bold and colourful, while others are soft and watercolor-like.

Drying

The saree is left to dry naturally. Multiple layers may take hours or days.
